The port of Dos Bocas, Tabasco, was built by Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) in the period 1979 to 1982, the year that started operations for the exclusive use of PEMEX to be a port facility in the oil core in the southeast. Since it began operations in 1982 and until 1999 with the establishment of the Port Authority's Dos Bocas S. A. de C. V., no changes had occurred regarding access, protection and docking port infrastructure.

In this period the port was operated and controlled by PEMEX, allocating port infrastructure available for the exclusive use of the oil industry, making use of it to other productive activities in the region.

It is from 1999 with the establishment of the Port Authority and the grant to the port area of Dos Bocas, observed a change in trends and tendencies in the development of the port towards the creation of new businesses related to oil activity.

The Multipurpose Terminal began its operations in 2005, equipped with infrastructure planned to give support to the regional productive sectors investments projects and cargo operations, positioning it immediately as the commercial, industrial and oil related youngest port of Mexico.

In a few years, the Multipurpose Terminal was selected as a base for offshore logistics performing oil and industrial companies world-class, such as Schlumberger, BJ Services, MI Drilling and Holcim.

In 2010, Dos Bocas Port was consolidated as a recipient of mineral bulk cargo and liquid asphalt, generating competitiveness in the regional industrial sector.
